How to greet someone you haven’t seen for ages
(Walking along a street, two people almost bump into each other)
A: Hey! Hello there! I haven’t seen you in ages!
B: Oh. Yes. Hello.
A: Great to see you again! You’re looking really well!
B: Oh! Do you think so? Thanks...
A: So, how are you?
B: Well, y’know, mustn’t grumble.
A: Good to hear. What are you up to? Still working in the coffee shop?
B: Yeah...still there...
A: Are you still trying to be an actor?
B: Well, yeah, y’know...
A: Hollywood haven’t called yet then?
B: Erm, well, no, not yet...
A: Are you still living in that little flat?
B: Erm, yeah. Still there.
A: Well, erm, great.
B: What about you? Are you still working in the fast food place?
A: No way! I stopped doing that last year. Now I’m working in the city, financial services!
B: Oh. Great. Still sharing that house with all those other people?
A: No way! Got a big place of my own now – garden, four bedrooms...
B: Well. Good for you.
A: We should meet up again! Go out for a drink...
B: Ok. Sure.
A: Let’s do that! I’ll be in touch!
B: Look forward to it!
A: Bye!
B: (through gritted teeth) Bye
